SUSTAIN-IT at the Earth Day Activation in Windhoek

SUSTAIN-IT at the Earth Day Activation in Windhoek

A central highlight of the event was the powerful message delivered by young people, who emphasised that climate change is no longer a distant threat but a present reality affecting communities today. Their voices called for immediate action, reinforcing the importance of individual and collective responsibility in safeguarding the environment.

Through interactive engagement and awareness activities, the SUSTAIN-IT Project showcased the role of digital innovation in addressing environmental challenges. The promotion of the project’s learning materials, published on the Smart Step eLearning platform, demonstrated how young people can be equipped with knowledge and tools to better understand and respond to climate issues.

The project further highlighted the importance of environmental monitoring using innovative technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT). By integrating technology with sustainability efforts, SUSTAIN-IT empowers Vocational Training Schools across Africa to actively participate in observing, analysing, and responding to environmental changes. SUSTAIN-IT will develop three use cases for green monitoring focusing on solar energy, air quality and water quality monitoring through IoT technology.

The Earth Day activation served as a reminder that the choices made today will shape the future. It called on all Namibians to take meaningful steps toward sustainability and to embrace solutions that protect the environment for generations to come.

Sincere appreciation to Clocknet Vocational Training Centre (CVTC) for partnering with the SUSTAIN-IT Project in commemorating Earth Day and supporting youth-driven climate awareness initiatives.
