SUSTAIN-IT Webinar on Innovative Approaches to Sustainability Education in TVET

The SUSTAIN-IT Project organised an online webinar entitled “Teaching Sustainability Through Innovation: The SUSTAIN-IT e-Toolbox” on 30 January 2026 | Online (Zoom). The event brought together 25 participants from Namibia, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Kenya, Nigeria, Italy, Spain, Ghana and Switzerland including TVET educators, trainers, and institutional representatives.

The webinar was delivered with the support of the SUSTAIN-IT Project Partners and forms part of the project’s dissemination and capacity-building activities, co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ Programme. The session aimed to promote innovative, digital, and inclusive approaches to sustainability education within TVET systems.

Key Contributions

Margherita Trestini, General Manager, Apodissi, opened the webinar by welcoming participants and outlining the objectives of the session. She emphasised the importance of collaboration, innovation, and inclusive teaching practices in strengthening sustainability education across vocational training institutions.

Sheila Larrabaster, Project Manager, Politeknika Txorierri, presented an overview of the SUSTAIN-IT Project, highlighting its objectives, EU co-funding framework, target groups, and expected impact. Her presentation focused on the project’s contribution to enhancing green and digital skills and supporting the integration of sustainability education into TVET curricula.

Silvia Ganassi, Project Manager of the Mundus Action in Africa, addressed social entrepreneurship as a tool for educational impact, highlighting how entrepreneurial approaches can empower learners to develop solutions to environmental and social challenges while fostering innovation and employability.

Ina Willibard, Senior Communication and Dissemination Specialist, Apodissi, delivered a demonstration of the Smart Step Knowledge Platform, illustrating how SUSTAIN-IT training modules can be accessed and integrated into TVET teaching, blended learning models, and self-paced skills development pathways.

The webinar concluded with closing remarks by Margherita Trestini, General Manager, Apodissi, who outlined next steps related to access to project materials, upcoming SUSTAIN-IT activities, and opportunities for continued engagement within the project network.

The webinar concluded with a question-and-answer session, enabling participants to exchange practical insights on platform use, curriculum integration, and sustainability-focused teaching approaches. The event contributed to strengthening cooperation between European and African stakeholders and supported the dissemination of SUSTAIN-IT project results among TVET institutions.
